"From a corner, uh, table beneath a picture of Mona Lisa riding an ass on the Wyoming Steppes, I said: 'Don’t be fools,' to those idiots in Congress, uh, in patient but stern rebuttal in regards their tax plan, 'there are enough of us all ready. Anymore and we’ll sink the life raft.'  But of course they didn't believe me, and so I said this next part too: “Welcome aboard -- we’re out of life vests.”

On 12/15/17, (five years) ago: “Twenty children and six educators” were brutally murdered by a single shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School, after he first killed his mother.  The mass murderer committed suicide.   - Fox News/ Meagan Kelly (12/14/16)

12/10/17 was Human Rights Day:

In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day."   - un.org/events/humanrights

What the wealthiest in America paid in taxes:

The top marginal tax rate in 1980 was (approximately) seventy percent and in 2013 was (approximately) forty percent.
In 1955, a ninety-one percent tax rate was charged on income "over $3,425,766 when adjusted for inflation."  -  Tax Foundation, Tax Policy Center, Alan Reynolds, from an article (11/24/15) by Andrew Syrios in Mises Daily Articles/ Mises Institute,

Please see the Carbuncle Moon post of 11/29/17.

The current Republican Tax Plan in Congress:
Sets "a top individual income tax rate of 37 percent, below 38.5 percent in the Senate bill and 39.6 percent in the House bill (which is also the rate under current law)."  - Vox/ Dylan Matthews/ 12-18-17

As America's wealth is situated in the hands of fewer and fewer banks, corporations, and people, 50 % would be fair for the top marginal tax rate...

Please see Carbuncle Moon posts of: 12/2 and 12/1/17.

"Yemen’s civil war, now in its third year, has brought a steady deterioration of humanitarian conditions, leaving more than 3 million displaced. Almost two-thirds of the population need some kind of humanitarian or protection support, while an estimated 3.3 million children and nursing mothers are acutely malnourished. This number includes nearly one-half million children under 5. A cholera outbreak has added another dimension to the human suffering."  - International Medical Corps

Happy Chanukkah:

Chanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is the celebration of the victory of the Maccabees (Jewish guerrillas) over the Seleucids, a remainder of Alexander the Great’s Greeks in Judea, Syrians, and some offbeat Hebrews.  The Maccabees sent the Seleucids down the beach, and recaptured the temple in Jerusalem.  Of that lamp oil in the temple that was kosher, there was enough for a single night of celebration, but God made the oil last for eight nights.

A candle is lit for each of the eight nights during Chanukkah.

The Hanukkiah holds nine candles, “eight prongs with a large prong, known as a shamash, in the middle.  The shamash is used to light one extra candle each night for the eight days.”  - Independent

Chanukkah starts tonight at sundown and ends at sundown on December 20th.  - Google

“Though, of course, there was that awful rumor that the bearded lady had lice, and all the schools, tanning parlors, and coffee shops within a fifty-mile radius were evacuated.  A pet store was, uh, burned down by rioting Knuckleheads because it had a sign advertising the sale of Bearded Collies.  The enflamed reactionaries thought that Bearded Collies were actually bearded women from Scotland, um, confusing bearded Colleens from Ireland with Bearded Collies from Scotland -- By-the-way, Scotland is an ancient country which is actually situated across the Irish Sea from Ireland and is connected to England by a land bridge that the Romans built called Adrian’s Walk.  Thankfully, no dogs, uh, were injured in the pet store fire however several of the reactionaries suffered burns in the Genitalia area, which is also not in Scotland.”

A carbuncle is a roiled mass of skin or a beautiful gem.  The incredible gem is pictured in the logo below and at the bottom of the short story section...

Kevin O'Kendley is the owner of Carbuncle Moon, and the author of all original material -- cartoons, blogs, shorts, essays, articles -- on the website (there has been a very limited editorial input in some of my work).  All quoted sources are noted.  I am responsible for all posts.  The only blogs not time-dated are those advertising nonprofits.  All nonprofits are vetted, investigated, though after the summer of 2018 my vetting has lapsed: (6/1/21).

    Kevin O'Kendley: P.O. Box 172, Winterport, Maine, 04496, and 200 P Street, A-32, Sacramento, California, 95814, ksokendley@outlook.com.

Technical help is provided by an evolving computer genius, my son, Conor O'Kendley:  A good kid with a great heart who can be reached at P.O. Box 172, Winterport, Maine, 04496.  (Conor is in the Navy now, a swabby)

Photography provided by a visual artist, my daughter, Caitlin O'Kendley: a young woman with a beautiful soul.  (Caitlin is in college now, a media-journalism student)

If your nonprofit is advertised on this site and you wish to have it removed please contact me at the above listed snail-mail or email address or use the contact form on the website.

If you download a blog, cartoon, a short story -- or for any other reason -- and wish to donate $ to this site, its author and technical support personnel, please send donations to above listed addresses payable to Kevin O'Kendley.  My family and I could use the dinero.
All cartoons, blogs, and short stories are for sale.
