In the rubble of war we see a woman caked in heavy dust, her face wiped clean in streaks but with tear stains sacrificing grief to gravity. She has long black hair covered in the gray powder. The woman is holding the empty body of a small child with the head unsupported, the legs and arms drape boneless from her outstretched hands and fingers. The toddler is barefoot, dirty, bloody, broken. The woman’s dark inset eyes are focused on her child as she sobs. The mother and child have the same desert-brown coloring of Moses, Jesus, Mary, Mohammed. We do not know if the mother and child are Israeli or Palestinian, we can’t tell -- The camera pans and we move on… Please give to the Samaritans Purse, U.S. and International Disaster Relief, P.O. Toys For Tots: 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, VA, 22172 / 703-640-9433 Are the Central American children refugees or illegal immigrants, those fleeing from the drug cartel/gang-infested and American-market-driven illegal-drug wars? When a fireman puts out a fire does he concentrate on containing those refugees fleeing the conflagration to first put out the blaze or does he put out the fire and attend to the survivors simultaneously? Is the recent Supreme Court Hobby Lobby ruling at its core the legal establishment of the rights of the employer’s religious beliefs over the employees? I hope not because I’m unemployed. Was the kidnapping-murder of three innocent Israeli teenagers a happenstance in time (followed by the retaliatory kidnapping-murder of an equally innocent Palestinian teenager) or perfect timing by Hamas within the context of the adjacent ISIS regional conquest, specifically designed to produce further tragic and horrific results for Palestinian and Israeli innocents and others alike? When the Berlin Wall was dismantled to unite a divided city was it then reassembled in the U.S. Congress to keep Democrats and Republicans from producing Bills of mixed parentage? I hope not in that I have a relative that married a Bill of Mixed Parentage, they had children, and this seems to have worked out just fine. Given the circumstances and the fact that, besides his three registered firearms, he had all of his worldly possessions in the back of his pick-up truck, Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a twenty-six-year-old Marine Corps Veteran of Afghanistan (who, since his arrest has gotten to know an aspect of Tijuana better than many locals) wasn’t trying to invade Mexico. Let him come home… I would like to visit, though (I like Carta Blanca and Dos Equix and Mexico). Please donate to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, 125 Maiden Lane, NY, NY, 10038. 1-800-367-5437. A carbuncle is a roiled mass of skin or a beautiful gem. The incredible gem is pictured in the logo below and at the bottom of the short story section...
Kevin O'Kendley is the owner of Carbuncle Moon, and the author of all original material -- cartoons, blogs, shorts, essays, articles -- on the website (there has been a very limited editorial input in some of my work). All quoted sources are noted. I am responsible for all posts. The only blogs not time-dated are those advertising nonprofits. All nonprofits are vetted, investigated, though after the summer of 2018 my vetting has lapsed: (6/1/21).
