“Global temperatures have continued to rise, making 2016 the hottest year on the historical record and the third consecutive record-breaking year, scientists say. Of the 17 hottest years ever recorded, 16 have now occurred since 2000.”   - Jugal K. Patel/ New York Times

“Earth’s 2016 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record keeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
“Globally-averaged temperatures in 2016 were 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit (0.99 degrees Celsius) warmer than the mid-20th century mean. This makes 2016 the third year in a row to set a new record for global average surface temperatures.”   - NASA

Happy Memorial Day (5/29):

"He did not understand the war --
He understood the blistering injustice of it; the stroke-like fear in the faraway sight of the raped as they blamed him for not being there; the accusing eyes of the children that leered from atop distended bellies even as they starved; the seeping lines of grief lacerated into the faces of fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives who had lost all they loved; the tortured and the maimed becoming in part or in whole separate from who they once were; and the Dali-draped carcasses of the dead…
The evil of the war bored into his heart, twisted with agony until he learned to ignore it --
Until he could ignore it no longer."   - from The Invisible War aka The Forgotten War, a short story by Kevin O'Kendley

"He’d seen a lot of death in his life but it hadn’t inured him to the pain of it, the tragedy, the loss, the suffering.  On the contrary, it had a cumulative effect; on darker days this effect swamped him in a Tsunami of emotion: after all the smaller waves passed, a big one threatened.  He would watch it nearing shore with a rising dread…"  - from Chandler's Bar, a novel by Kevin O'Kendley

"Hey Bob: Deep-trauma rumors have surfaced that raidin parties from Canada have invaded as far south as Jersey to capture raw materials to make Bobsleds.  I wouldn't take this slanderous blather seriously but if you're worried change your name to Raoul."

"Monday's (5/22) attack outside an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena (Manchester, UK) killed at least 22 people, including children, and was carried out by a lone suspect carrying a bomb, Manchester Police said.
"'The attacker, I can confirm, died at the arena. We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device, which he detonated, causing this atrocity,' said Chief Constable Ian Hopkins."  - CNN, Euan McKirdy, Zayn Nabbi, Samantha Beech, Darran Simon.

It is nearly unbelievable that any person could murder innocent children, women, men, in such a way...

Today is my son's 16th birthday, he has been places where all those around him have been innocent, too...   Happy birthday Conor.

"In the debris and rubble of war I see a woman caked in heavy dust, face wiped clean in streaks, tear stains sacrificing grief to gravity.  She has long black hair, um, covered in gray powder.  The woman is holding the empty body of a small child with her head unsupported, small legs and arms drape boneless from outstretched hands and fingers.  The toddler is barefoot, dirty, bloody, broken.  Sobbing, the woman’s dark inset eyes are, uh, focused on her child.  The mother and child have the same desert-brown coloring of Moses, Jesus, Mary, Mohammed.  We don't know if the mother and child are Israeli or Palestinian: we can’t tell -- the camera pans and we move on…"

Lilith, Adam's first wife, made of the same stuff Adam was and in the image of God.

Lilith was demonized by either a second wife, her first husband -- maybe even God -- or just gossips, because she was Adam's equal.  (edited: 5/19) (posted earlier)

“We were at Kings Beach, one of those places with our own kitchen.  I was takin a shower.  I smelled smoke.  I heard Celeste yellin grease fire but it was really Mel Gibson yellin cease fire on TV -- remember Celeste had that deep voice.  So I ran outside without dryin off.  It was about ten below.  My thing, uh, my dingaling froze.  I came back in, Celeste thought I had a woody and she friggin attacked me -- it was a savage attack too.  As soon as I warmed up, uh, I thawed out and my hummamonger went flat. So, she punched me in the nose -- this proves that some domestic abuse victims are straight men."  (had some input on this toon)

"Well, brothers and sisters you can put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye because the 20th Century is more than a blink and a nod behind us now -- we are eons and kingdoms past its stone-age moralities -- we are in the future and it has us by our collective balls, even if you're a lady and your balls are theoretical in conversation but real by deed of action.”

Some facts about Meals on Wheels:
“'The average cost of a one-month nursing home stay is equivalent to providing home-delivered meals five days a week for approximately seven years,' a study referenced by the Washington Post found."  - unknown study/ Washington Post

Beyond food, the Meals on Wheels humanity-of-contact provides recipients with conversation, friendship, love, life ...  It is a program that needs to be kept as is, not mitigated, not dismantled...

Murel Johnson (93) has for "the past 16 years" "delivered fresh, hot meals to older Americans and people with disabilities across Lake Oswego, Oregon. She knows that for the 20 people she will visit during the course of her route, she is a lifeline -- likely providing the only companionship and nutritious meal they will have all day.  Johnson is exactly the kind of unpaid volunteer President Richard Nixon imagined when he signed an amendment to the Older Americans Act 45 years ago. He established the nation’s nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older with the faith that if the federal government helped fund the meals, an army of volunteers would provide the wheels."    - Ellie Hollander-Chief Executive of Meals on Wheels/ Washington Post
