Prevailing winds from the Rust Belt in the U.S. and Canada provide L.A.-like air quality conditions in some areas of Maine in the summer. Acid Rain. Smog. Respiratory harm to life. New England-area warming has impacted the dog and deer tick life-cycle from a normally dormant winter life to an active winter life. I pull ticks off of dogs in January now. Just a few years ago I pulled the last ticks of summer in October-November, years before that September-October. The moose and deer population of Maine have suffered dramatically even in winter, causing underweight, malnourished moose to suffer and die as a result. As the water temperature rises in Vermont the most active and reliable trout hatcheries are in Maine. Watching the trout population in a brook (I lived by for years) survive in healthy and supportive conditions -- as immediate temperatures rise and life changes in the most forested state in the nation -- I wonder how much longer the brook trout will still be there… 9/26: "Each of the first six months of 2016 set a record as the warmest respective month globally in the modern temperature record, which dates to 1880, according to the scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York." - Google "Twenty-two of the 54 (people) killed in a devastating (terrorist) bomb attack that struck a Kurdish wedding celebration in (Gaziantep) Turkey were under 14, a Turkish official said Monday." It is possible that the suicide bomber was between 12 and 14. - CNN In response to this awful tragedy, please give to: The Turkish Red Crescent Society: Atac Sokak 1 No. 32/ Yenishir/ Ankara, Turkey/ (90) (312) 430-23-00/ international@kizilay.org.tr

A carbuncle is a roiled mass of skin or a beautiful gem. The incredible gem is pictured in the logo below and at the bottom of the short story section...
Kevin O'Kendley is the owner of Carbuncle Moon, and the author of all original material -- cartoons, blogs, shorts, essays, articles -- on the website (there has been a very limited editorial input in some of my work). All quoted sources are noted. I am responsible for all posts. The only blogs not time-dated are those advertising nonprofits. All nonprofits are vetted, investigated, though after the summer of 2018 my vetting has lapsed: (6/1/21).
Kevin O'Kendley: P.O. Box 172, Winterport, Maine, 04496, and 200 P Street, A-32, Sacramento, California, 95814, ksokendley@outlook.com. Technical help is provided by an evolving computer genius, my son, Conor O'Kendley: A good kid with a great heart who can be reached at P.O. Box 172, Winterport, Maine, 04496. (Conor is in the Navy now, a swabby) Photography provided by a visual artist, my daughter, Caitlin O'Kendley: a young woman with a beautiful soul. (Caitlin is in college now, a media-journalism student) If your nonprofit is advertised on this site and you wish to have it removed please contact me at the above listed snail-mail or email address or use the contact form on the website. If you download a blog, cartoon, a short story -- or for any other reason -- and wish to donate $ to this site, its author and technical support personnel, please send donations to above listed addresses payable to Kevin O'Kendley. My family and I could use the dinero. All cartoons, blogs, and short stories are for sale. Categories |
